Naples

Old Naples, Fifth Avenue South, and miles of soft white Gulf beach where the sun goes down over the water instead of coming up over it.

Naples sits at the southern end of Florida's Gulf coast, in Collier County. Its beaches are wide, calm and famously white, the pier is the town's evening meeting point, and Fifth Avenue South and Third Street South hold the restaurants and galleries. Marco Island and the Ten Thousand Islands are a short drive south; the Everglades begin just inland.

Winter is the season here. From January to April the town fills with families and snowbirds who come for warm, dry weather and calm water, and rates and minimum stays rise to match. Summer is quieter, greener and cheaper, with afternoon storms that clear by dinner.
